The Sudetenland Annexation Medal, often called the Sudetenland Medal, was a decoration issued by Nazi Germany to commemorate the annexation of the Sudetenland in 1938. The Sudetenland was a region of Czechoslovakia with a significant German-speaking population, and its annexation by Germany was a significant step in Adolf Hitler's expansionist ambitions.
The medal was instituted on October 1, 1938, to be awarded to all German military and civilian personnel who participated in the occupation of the Sudetenland. It was awarded to those who served in the Sudetenland from October 1 to October 10, 1938. The medal was designed by Professor Richard Klein and featured a swastika on the obverse, surrounded by the inscription "1. Oktober 1938." The reverse side depicted a landscape of the Sudetenland with the words "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer" (One People, One Empire, One Leader).
The Sudetenland Medal was not a high-ranking decoration and was primarily intended to acknowledge the individuals who had taken part in this specific military operation. It was often considered a campaign medal and was awarded in large numbers to members of the German military and other organizations.
